Coast Guard to hold Critical Navigation Aids Open House at ANT Corpus Christi, Texas

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Coast Guard Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi is scheduled to hold a Critical Navigation Aids Open House, Thursday. 

WHAT: Local media are invited to observe Aids to Navigation Team (ANT) Corpus Christi while underway as they service critical marine navigational aids. ANT Corpus Christi will get underway to provide inspection, maintenance, and repair of buoys, day-boards, and ranges. They will ensure these critical aids are up to date and operating properly so recreational and commercial boaters can safely navigate the maritime environment.

Each month Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi will be highlighting a message and/or operation for local media outlets. Many will include the opportunity for media to get underway and document firsthand how the Coast Guard keeps the waters of South Texas safe, secure and clean. 

This month Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi’s Monthly Media Open House is focused on our Aids to Navigation program. Each year our three Aids to Navigation Teams and 75-foot Inland Construction Tender provide maintenance and repair to over 1,000 primary aids to navigation that support the safe transit of 10,000 vessels annually representing $20 billion maritime economy.

Sector/Air Station Corpus Christ directs all Coast Guard missions throughout South Texas from the Colorado River to the U.S.-Mexico international border and out 200 nautical miles offshore with 679 active duty, reserve and civilian personnel, along with six aircraft, five cutters and 17 small boats. These missions include: search and rescue, port and waterway security and law enforcement, drug and migrant interdiction, marine safety and aids to navigation, marine environmental protection and living marine resources.
