MIAMI — Rear Adm. Peter J. Brown, commander of Coast Guard 7th District, attended the senior class' Pass-in-review at the Maritime and Science Technology school in Miami as the guest speaker Thursday.

The Maritime and Science Technology school is located in Miami-Dade County and has 1510 students in grades 6th through 12th. The MAST program offers a marine-themed curriculum and students graduate with a full range of honors, AP, Cambridge (AICE) and Dual Enrollment courses.

During the ceremony, Brown spoke of opportunities the Coast Guard has given him during his career and encouraged the students to embrace the opportunities they are presented in the future.

"You have the opportunity to be the first in your family, in your school or in your neighborhood to do something positive," said Brown. "I encourage you to think about what you want to be first in - make it something positive and find a way to serve others."
