SUBJ: 2018 RESERVE FAMILY READINESS AWARD (RFRA) RECIPIENT ANNOUNCEMENT
1. Congratulations to Port Security Unit (PSU) 311 for its selection as
the Coast Guard's 2018 RFRA recipient.
2. The Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and
Readiness (OUSD/P&R) annually recognizes units from each of the Armed
Forces Reserve Components that have demonstrated excellence in family
readiness and its contribution to mission success.
3. PSU 311 is currently deployed overseas to U.S. Southern Command
supporting Joint Task Force Guantanamo (JTF-GTMO). During this
deployment, PSU 311 has effectively empowered the unit ombudsman by
promoting the development of an ombudsman team, representing a diverse
cross-section of the unit, which proactively engaged with families at
home through a variety of means to keep the families informed of the
status of their deployed members' welfare. This included a highly
successful social media presence featuring information and photos, as
well as a monthly newsletter. Furthermore, PSU 311 worked closely with
the Yellow Ribbon Program to develop successful pre and mid-deployment
events.
4. PSU 311's actions and forward-leaning approach to family needs ahead
of, during, and after deployments are essential to driving mission success
and embody the spirit of the RFRA. Bravo Zulu.
5. RDML M. W. Sibley, Director of Reserve and Military Personnel, sends.
6. Internet release is authorized.
