A. Recognition Programs Manual, COMDTINST M1650.26 (series)
1. The incumbent Enlisted Ancient Albatross, AMTCM Kit Harris, is
scheduled to retire during spring 2019. The selection process to identify
his successor is underway.
2. The Ancient Albatross Award was originally established in 1966 to honor
the aviator who has held that designation for the longest period of time.
In 1988, the award was augmented to include the Enlisted Ancient Albatross
award, which was established for the enlisted member with the earliest
graduation date from class “A” school with a Coast Guard aviation rating.
The award recipient is the embodiment of the dedication and professionalism
associated with long service to Coast Guard Aviation. Candidates must be
able to hold the distinction for at least one year following receipt of
the award until retirement, release from active duty, or upon display of
unsatisfactory performance of duty or conduct.
3. Any candidate who meets the requirements of REF (A), with an aviation
“A” school graduation date prior to 01 January 1995, and who, if selected
as the Enlisted Ancient Albatross would remain on active duty for at least
one year, is requested to notify the COMDT (CG-711) POC by 31 January 2019.
4. COMDT (CG-711) will establish a list of candidates who meet the
eligibility requirements and will determine the award recipient in
accordance with REF (A). Anticipate announcement of the new Enlisted Ancient
Albatross in February 2019.
