Coast Guard, EMS medevac ill crew member from tanker off coast of Boston

BOSTON — A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Boston medevaced a 31-year-old male crew member from the tanker Hafnia Phoenix Friday afternoon after he fell ill 26 miles east of Boston.

The captain of the ship notified Coast Guard Sector Boston watchstanders at approximately 11:15 a.m. of the man’s condition, and it was determined a medevac to the nearest hospital was necessary.

A Coast Guard Station Boston crew, augmented with emergency medical services personnel from Massachusetts General Hospital, launched to assist as the Hafnia Phoenix made way toward Boston.

The crew arrived on scene at approximately 12:15 p.m. and took the patient aboard. They then transported him to Black Falcon Cruise Terminal where an ambulance was waiting.

The patient was expected to be brought to Tufts Medical Center for further care.

Hafnia Phoenix is a 600-foot tanker flagged out of Denmark.
