MEDIA AVAILABILITY: Coast Guard Cutter Seneca crew to conduct cold-water training

BOSTON — Members of the media are invited to participate in cold-water training with crew of Coast Guard Cutter Seneca at Coast Guard Base Boston, Thursday morning.

 

The crew is scheduled to conduct cold-water training with full survival suits and a life raft.

 

WHO: Coast Guard Cutter Seneca crew and local media members.

 

WHAT: Cutter Seneca crew will conduct cold-water training, wearing survival suits and entering the water from the side of the cutter. A 20-person life raft will be deployed, and crewmembers will jump into the water and swim to the raft.

 

WHEN: Thursday, December 20th at 9:30 a.m.

 

WHERE: Coast Guard Base Boston, 427 Commercial Street, Boston, MA, 02109

 

Those planning to participate are encouraged to arrive by 9:00 a.m., and are recommended to bring clothes that can get wet, as well as a dry change of warm clothes and a towel.

 

Water temperatures in the region often drop to 40 degrees Fahrenheit during the winter months.

 

Coast Guard Cutter Seneca is a 270-foot medium endurance cutter with primary missions of counter-narcotics, search and rescue, and living marine resources. The ship has a crew complement of 100.
