SUBJ: RELEASE OF THE COAST GUARD STRATEGIC PLAN 2018-2022
1.  Today’s strategic environment requires a Ready, Relevant, and Responsive Coast Guard that
can address the Nation’s most complex maritime challenges across our full spectrum of operations.
Since releasing my Guiding Principles, I have worked closely with our Senior Leaders to chart the
Service’s direction for the next four years.  Together, we are proud to announce the release of the
Coast Guard Strategic Plan 2018-2022.
2.  The Strategic Plan builds upon the Guiding Principles and identifies three strategic priorities:
Maximize Readiness Today and Tomorrow; Address the Nation’s Complex Maritime Challenges;
and Deliver Mission Excellence Anytime, Anywhere.  To keep pace with the dynamic security
environment and the changing character of maritime operations, these priorities reinforce our
need to further invest in our readiness while fine-tuning our mission execution and operational
support.  The Strategic Plan provides greater detail on each priority, along with supporting objectives
that will help guide our efforts.  It is available at www.uscg.mil/alwaysready.
3.  As we strive to remain the world’s best Coast Guard, our Strategic Plan will not dramatically
change the direction of our Service.  Rather, it implements a framework that will help us strategically
balance our limited resources against a growing demand for our services to ensure we remain
Semper Paratus to meet the needs of our Nation.
4. Admiral Karl L. Schultz, Commandant, sends.
5. Internet release is authorized.
