MIAMI — The Coast Guard rescued a 51-year-old man from the water in Alligator Reef, Islamorada, Wednesday.
Rescued was Carlos Arboleda, 51.
At approximately 11 a.m., Coast Guard Sector Key West received a report from a source saying they lost sight of a man swimming in Alligator Reef. Watchstanders launched a Coast Guard Station Islamorada 33-foot Special Purpose Craft—Law Enforcement boatcrew and a Coast Guard Air Station Miami MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew to search.
The boatcrew located Arboleda at approximately 11:40 a.m. and returned him to his boat with no reported injuries.
"Rough seas can be a threat to even the strongest swimmers," said Petty Officer 2nd Class Christopher Vita, a Station Islamorada boatcrew member. "Wearing a life jacket can save your life and we encourage everyone out on the water to wear one."
