united states coast guard

The National Weather Service (NWS) reports an enhanced to slight risk of severe weather and/or excessive rainfall across the entire forcast area (Southeast Louisiana and Southern Mississippi). The greatest threat will begin for areas across Baton Rouge and northwestward shortly after midnight, and will progress eastward into Thursday morning.

Possible impact/threats associated with severe storms may be wind gusts 60 mph or greater which could down trees and power lines, and/or cause structural damage, large hail, and isolated tornadoes.

In addition to the severe weather threat, rainfall of 2 to 4 inches is forecast, with locally higher amounts possible. Locally heavy rainfall could lead to ponding of water in low lying areas and areas of poor drainage.

Captain of the Port New Orleans advises mariners, barge fleets, and waterfront facilities to closely monitor weather conditions and make appropriate heavy weather precautions in advance of incoming weather.
