Coast Guard medevacs man near Santa Cruz Island

A Coast Guard 45-foot Response Boat Medium crew from Coast Guard Station Channel Islands Harbor transported a 61-year old man that sustained severe wrist and hand injuries from a 25-foot recreation boat to Channel Islands Harbor, October 19, 2018. The Coast Guard 45-RBM crew had two emergency medical technicians and a paramedic from Ventura County Fire Department were aboard, providing immediate medical treatment before being taken to Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center for further medical care. SAN PEDRO, Calif. — The Coast Guard medevaced a 61-year-old man near Santa Cruz Island Friday morning.

At approximately 7:00 a.m., a man aboard a 25-foot recreational vessel contacted Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach watchstanders and reported another man aboard the vessel sustained severe injuries to his hand and wrist.

After consulting with the duty flight surgeon, the watchstanders dispatched a Coast Guard Station Channel Islands Harbor 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew to respond. Two emergency medical technicians and a paramedic from the Ventura County Fire Department were aboard the RB-M to provide immediate medical treatment once on scene.

At approximately 8:00 a.m., the Coast Guard boat crew arrived on scene and transported the man to Channel Islands Harbor where the man was later transported to Los Robles Regional Medical Center for further medical care.
