Coast Guard, partner agencies rescue overdue boater near Biscayne Bay

MIAMI — The Coast Guard and Florida Wildlife Conservation Commission rescued an overdue boater near Biscayne Bay, Tuesday.

Rescued was Carlos Rosell, 34.

Coast Guard Sector Miami watchstanders received a call from Rosell's ex-wife of him being overdue aboard his 18-foot pleasure craft, Sea-Doo at approximately 9:30 a.m. and diverted a Coast Guard Air Station Miami HC-144 Ocean Sentry airplane crew to search.

The airplane crew located the disabled boat at approximately 10:33 a.m. and an FWC marine asset towed the boater back to shore.

Miami-Dade Police Department, the National Park Service and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue also assisted.

"When boaters don’t check in with a friend or family member or come back from a trip when they say they will, timely notification to the U.S. Coast Guard is paramount so we can begin our searches sooner," said Lt. Cmdr. Scott Farr, the search and rescue mission coordinator at Sector Miami. "We’re very fortunate to have excellent partnerships with FWC, Miami-Dade, and the National Park Service who responded immediately upon notification to help us search and bring the mariner ashore once he was located."
