Hurricane Florence displaced boats on private property

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. --U.S. Coast Guard, with support of N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission and N.C. Department of Environmental Quality, is reaching out to boat owners whose hurricane affected vessels are on private property to hear their recovery plans.

If we are unable to contact or reach the boat owner, our ESF-10 response teams will assess the situation and schedule the vessel for hazardous materials removal. The ESF response teams will only be removing the HazMat and not the vessel from the property. In regards to vessel removal, homeowners can contact their County Sheriff where local County laws will apply for either "abandoned vessels" or "abandoned or junked vehicles".

If the vessel on private property if actively polluting, please call the Hurricane Florence Vessel Hotline at (757) 355-1042 or the National Response Center at (800) 424-8802 and an assessment team will be dispatched as operations permit.
