SUBJ:  SOLICITATION FOR THE TRACEN CAPE MAY (TCCM) RECRUIT COMPANY MENTOR PROGRAM
A. Military Assignments and Authorized Absences, COMDTINST M1000.8 (series)
1. TCCM is currently soliciting applications for the remainder of the FY19 Recruit Company
Mentor Program. TCCM is aligning the Company Mentor Program with the Recruiting Command’s
annual load plan, which is on a FY basis. The next ALCOAST for the Recruit Company Mentor
Program will be released mid-summer 2019 to accomplish the final re-alignment and to build the
FY2020 mentor list.
2. The program is a critical part of the development of our new shipmates, and it is a very
rewarding experience for both the new recruits and the members participating. Mentors visit
TCCM to meet with their Recruit Company at three points during the eight-week program
(Week 2-Saturday, Week 5-Saturday, and Graduation-Friday). We encourage a diverse and robust
pool of candidates to apply in order to increase recruit exposure to high-performing Officer and
Enlisted leaders and to provide the highest level of support and guidance to our newest Coast
Guard members. Every year, TCCM receives an overwhelming response to the solicitation with
countless high-performing members applying for the program. Due to the number of available
companies, we cannot select every applicant. We encourage interested members who were not
selected in previous years to reapply.
3. Mentor Application Requirements and Specifics:
   a. Enlisted: E-7 and above.
   b. Officers: CWO2-CWO4, O-3 and above.
   c. The following Coast Guard-wide award winners will be reserved a mentor spot for each
calendar year: EPOY, Munro, McShan, Jarvis, and Witherspoon award winners.
   d. Operational units may also apply to mentor a company with members of the command
representing the unit at the normally scheduled mentor visits. For these units, the personnel
having contact with the Recruits must meet the requirements of Paragraph 3.A.B.
   e. TCCM anticipates 31 companies convening for the remainder of FY19.
   f. TCCM is not responsible for funding mentor travel costs.
   g. Commanding officers are strongly encouraged to support participation.
4. The application submission deadline is 09Nov18. All qualified applicants will be considered
by a selection board held at TCCM and approved by the TCCM Commanding Officer. All applicants
will be notified of their status via e-mail NLT 19Dec18.
5. During the selection process, priority will be given to personnel with recent operational
experience at units with Non Rates assigned, strong record of performance, public speaking
skills, and command endorsement. The program objective is to provide recruits contact with members
that can help answer questions and help guide them through the challenges and opportunities that
they will soon face. Mentors should be inspiring, easy to talk with, squared away, and be some of
our most high-performing members. Mentors should anticipate a public speaking role at graduation.
