1. The Assistant Secretary of Defense for Manpower and Reserve Affairs
(ASD-M&RA) and the Office of Reserve Affairs, COMDT (CG-131) are soliciting
nominations for the 2018 Reserve Family Readiness Award (RFRA). This award
is sponsored by ASD-M&RA to recognize the top unit from each of the Armed
Forces Reserve components whose family readiness goals have contributed
to a high state of overall mission readiness. Family readiness is a key
component of mission readiness, and robust family readiness programs have
greatly enhanced the responsiveness of Guard and Reserve units.
2. All Coast Guard units with assigned Selected Reserve (SELRES) members
are eligible for this award. Nominations should be submitted through the
first Flag in the chain of command to COMDT (CG-131). Areas, Districts,
and the Director of Operational Logistics, are strongly encouraged to
nominate at least one unit for this award. Nominations must be submitted
in accordance with the requirements outlined in this ALCOAST.
3. The criteria listed in Chapter 7.A.4 of REF (A) outline Coast Guard
standards for consideration. In addition, the Department of Defense has
provided a number of forms which must be completed as part of the unit's
submission. Templates for award submissions can be found at the COMDT (CG-131)
web page at: https://reserve.uscg.mil/resources/cg131/cg1313/awards/.
Commands must complete the template provided and attach it as an enclosure
to a cover memo addressed to COMDT (CG-131). Nominations should include
contact information for the family readiness representative or ombudsman.
As denoted in the template instructions, each of the three primary categories
should include approximately three examples of how the criteria has been met
and/or measured.
4. Nominations shall be submitted electronically. All nominations must be
submitted to the POC listed in paragraph (7) no later than 03 December 2018.
5. Per REF (B), the Coast Guard Reserve Awards Panel will review all
nominations and submit their award recommendations to the Director of Reserve
and Military Personnel COMDT (CG-13). The results will be announced via ALCOAST.
6. The commanding officer of the selected unit and the unit designated family
support program representative or ombudsman will be invited to attend an
awards ceremony hosted by ASD-M&RA at the Pentagon Hall of Heroes in
Washington D.C. on 29 March 2019. COMDT (CG-131) may fund travel and ADOS-RC
orders if necessary for the unit commanding officer (or executive officer)
and the unit ombudsman or family representative to attend the ceremony.
