Coast Guard rescues 2 adults, 1 child from disable boat 17 miles north of Fort Pierce

MIAMI — The Coast Guard rescued two adults and one child from a disable 21-foot pleasure craft Saturday 17 miles north of Fort Pierce.

 

A watchstander at Coast Guard Station Fort Pierce received a cell phone call at 3:25 p.m. from a mariner in distress reporting they were disabled with three people, two adults and one child, aboard and need assistance. A Station Fort Pierce 45-foot Response Boat—Medium boatcrew was diverted from a patrol to assist.

 

“We want to remind people that any time you plan on getting underway there are few things you can do to keep safe, like ensuring you have a VHF-FM marine band radio onboard your vessel, wearing your life jacket and having emergency signaling devices,” said Cmdr. Jason Aleksak, Coast Guard Sector Miami search and rescue mission coordinator. “We continue our normal operations to ensure the maritime community is safe in South Florida while Hurricane Florence relief efforts continue up north.”

 

The station crew towed the disable pleasure craft to the Fort Pierce Inlet, transferred the boat to a Station Fort Pierce 33-foot Special Purpose Craft—Law Enforcement boatcrew, who took the vessel to the Stan Blum Boat Ramp.

 

There were no reported injuries.
