Coast Guard rescues 2 people from disabled boat near Miami

MIAMI — The Coast Guard rescued two mariners aboard a disabled 25-foot pleasure craft Thursday in Miami.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Miami received a call at 8:08 p.m. from a good Samaritan stating they had seen a red meteor flare near the Julia Tuttle Causeway. A Coast Guard Station Miami Beach 33-foot Special Purpose Craft—Law Enforcement boatcrew was diverted and arrived on scene at approximately 8:15 p.m., with a disabled 25-foot center console pleasure craft with two people aboard and no reported injuries.

“These people had a flare to notify someone they were in distress, and they used the flare correctly,” said Lt. Cmdr. Scott Farr, search and rescue missions coordinator with Sector Miami. “This case highlights how important it is for you to be prepared with the proper emergency equipment aboard your vessel before going out underway.” 

The SPC—LE crew took the vessel in tow to the Bayside Marina.
