Coast Guard coordinates medevac from cruise ship

NEW YORK — Coast Guard crews coordinated a medevac of a woman from a cruise ship in New York Harbor, Wednesday evening.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New York were notified around 5:45 p.m., that a 74-year-old woman aboard the Carnival Horizon was suffering chest pains while the ship was transiting southbound near Lower Manhattan.

The command center then dispatched a rescue boat from Station New York to assist in the medevac. The watchstanders also coordinated with FDNY and NYPD to safely remove the woman.

At approximately 6:15 p.m., the woman was transferred from the cruise ship to an NYPD vessel and taken to awaiting emergency medical services in Manhattan. The Station New York boatcrew served as the on scene coordinator and helped to alert nearby vessel traffic to safely facilitate the patient transfer.

The woman's current condition is unknown.
