MIAMI — The Coast Guard rescued an injured boater Sunday approximately 11 miles east of Dania Beach.
Rescued was Jorge Diaz, 55, of Dania Beach.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard 7th District Command Center received an emergency position indicating radio beacon from a 22-foot pleasure craft and around the same time watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Miami received a VHF-FM radio mayday call.
The sector watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast, diverted the Coast Guard Cutter Margaret Norvell and launched a Coast Guard Station Lake Worth Inlet 33-foot Special Purpose Craft—Law Enforcement boatcrew.
The station boatcrew arrived on scene, embarked two crewmembers onto the 22-foot vessel to assist Diaz and escorted the vessel to Boynton Beach. The station crew brought Diaz and vessel into Boynton Beach where awaiting emergency medical services took Diaz for further medical care.
