Coast Guard rescues 2 boaters stranded on Disappearing Island

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Coast Guard rescued two boaters Sunday after their boat became stuck aground on Disappearing Island near Ponce Inlet.

Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville Command Center watchstanders received a call at 4:00 a.m. from the operator of a 19-foot pontoon boat stating he had been stranded for seven hours after beaching his boat and being unable to relaunch it.

A Coast Guard Station Ponce De Leon Inlet Special Purpose Craft – Shallow Water boat crew launched to assist at approximately 4:30 a.m.

The SPC-SW crew arrived on-scene, recovered the boaters and transported them to the station where they were met by family members.

No injuries were reported.
