SUBJ: 2018 BETTER SHIPPING FOR A BETTER FUTURE STUDENT ART CONTEST WINNERS
1. I am delighted to announce the winners and congratulate students who participated in
the 2018 Student Art Contest co-sponsored by the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), the North American
Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA), and the Inter-American Committee on
Ports of the Organization of American States (CIP-OAS). Annually, these organizations invite
students in grades K-12 throughout the Americas to create posters on a theme related to the
marine environment. This year's theme was “Better Shipping for a Better Future.”

3. The contest winners' works of art will be featured on the USCG, NAMEPA and CIP-OAS websites.
The two grand prize winners will receive a certificate, a bilingual (English and Spanish)
calendar featuring the art of all 12 winners, a $100 cash prize and a special Coast Guard-themed
package. Finalists will receive a certificate and the bilingual calendar.
4. USCG Partnership in Education (PIE) Coordinators encouraged and supported the participation
of students at schools in communities in which they live and serve. I commend these USCG PIE
Coordinators for their support of PIE initiatives that encourage academic achievement and
