Station Indian River medevacs man 8 miles off of Fenwick Beach, NJ

FENWICK ISLAND, Del. — A Coast Guard station boat crew medevaced a man with an injured back on a pleasure craft eight miles off of Fenwick Beach, Delaware, Wednesday. 

A person from the vessel called the Coast Guard at 7:15 a.m. and reported that someone had injured his back after taking a wave. Coast Guard watchstanders at Sector Delaware Bay launched a 47-foot Motor Life Boat from Coast Guard Station Indian River to recover the man. 

The man was taken to Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, Delaware, for additional care. 

"Having the right communications equipment on your vessel is key to staying safe on the water," said Petty Officer 2nd Class Steven Setnicky. "Being able to contact the Coast Guard quickly ensured we got the injured man access to medical care as fast as possible. Always bring a cell phone and VHF radio with you underway."
