MIAMI—Rear Adm. Peter Brown, commander of Coast Guard 7th District participated in a ceremony commemorating the Coast Guard for their service in World War I and World War II at Boynton Beach, Tuesday.

The Boynton Beach Veterans Victory Day Remembrance ceremony is an event that celebrates the anniversary of America’s victory over Imperial Japan following their surrender on Aug. 14, 1945. The 73rd anniversary of the victory honors and commemorates local WWII Veterans for their service.

Brown spoke as the event's special guest of honor and assisted in the unveiling of a monument honoring Coast Guard veterans at the ceremony.  In addition, service members past and present remembered and honored the anniversary of the allied forces' victory during WWII in the Pacific.

"This event is great," said James Darity, a retired Army Sergeant that served in WWII. "As time goes on, the memories come back and it's great to share them with like minded people especially coming up on 102 years old."
