SUBJ: SOLICITATION FOR THE 2019 BLACK ENGINEER OF THE YEAR AWARDS SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING,
AND MATH (STEM) CONFERENCE AWARDS NOMINATIONS
1. Career Communications Group, Inc. is the host for the 33rd Black Engineer of the Year (BEYA)
STEM Conference and is accepting nominations for awards to be presented at the conference scheduled
for 7-9 February 2019 in Washington, DC. In 2019, the U.S. Coast Guard will be the featured service
at the Stars and Stripes event, one of the nation’s largest events honoring both active and retired
African American admirals, generals, members of the Senior Executive Service and senior enlisted members.
The awards recognize outstanding individuals from all backgrounds for their contribution to the STEM fields,
and provide excellent opportunities to highlight the superior achievements of the U.S. Coast Guard’s highest
performing military and civilian members to an African American majority STEM audience. Additional
information about BEYA will be provided as it becomes available.
2. BEYA will recognize the below award categories during the 2018 Annual BEYA conference and
Award show on 7-9 February 2019 at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park Hotel located at 2660
Woodley Road, NW Washington, DC 20008.
   A. The BEYA STEM Professional categories are granted to individuals in the workforce.
Those categories are:
   (1) Peer Review - Professional Award
   (2) Career Achievement
   (3) Community Service
   (4) Affirmative Action
   (5) Education Leadership
   (6) Entrepreneur Leadership
   (7) Most Promising Engineer
   (8) Most Promising Scientist
   (9) Outstanding Technical Contribution
   (10) Professional Achievement
   (11) Research Leadership
   (12) Senior Investigator
   (13) Senior Technology Fellow
   (14) Technical Sales and Marketing
   B. The BEYA STEM Academia categories are awards granted to individuals in the academic
community. Those categories are:
   (1) Educational Leadership
   (2) K-12 Promotion of Education
   (3) GEM Outstanding Young Alumnus/GEM Student Leadership
   (4) Student Leadership
   C. The BEYA STEM Outstanding Achievement Awards are granted to individuals in the workforce
and are recommended for these awards by their employers. Those categories are:
   (1) BEYA STEM Outstanding Achievement Award
   (2) Modern-Day Technology Leader
   (3) Science Spectrum Trailblazer
   D. The BEYA Stars & Stripes Awards are granted to individuals in the military community.
The nomination applications are reviewed and recommended for an award by a panel of leaders
from current and retired military members. Those categories are:
   (1) Service Military Awardee
   (2) Senior Executive Service Award
   (3) Senior Enlisted Award

addition to this process, nominators will notify COMDT (CG-127) of all nominees for tracking
purposes. Nomination packages for all awards are due NLT 31 August 2018. No extensions will

authorization from COMDT (CG-8) for CFO approval. All award winner travel and registration will
be sponsored by their nominating command/unit.
