PHILADELPHIA — An aircrew aboard a Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter medevaced a 66-year-old woman from the cruise ship Carnival Horizon at approximately 1 a.m. this morning.

Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay command center were contacted by a crewmember on the cruise ship, who requested a medevac for the woman. The woman had reportedly suffered a stroke and needed medical assistance.

An aircrew from Air Station Atlantic City, New Jersey, was launched to assist. After hoisting the woman and a nurse from the ship, the aircrew transported her Air Station Atlantic City, to awaiting ambulance.

“Communication is key in situations like this,” said Chief Warrant Officer Daniel Capestany, command duty officer at Sector Delaware Bay's command center. “Quick and efficient coordination between the Coast Guard and the cruise ship were key in the successful execution of this medical evacuation. As a result, the woman received the medical attention that she needed.”
