Coast Guard, good Samaritans rescue 3 after boat capsizes near Mayport jetties
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Coast Guard and good Samaritans rescued three boaters Saturday after their boat capsized near the south Mayport jetties.
Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville Command Center watchstanders received a call via VHF-FM radio channel 16 at 11:21 a.m. from a good Samaritan stating another good Samaritan had recovered two people from an overturned Carolina Skiff with one remaining on top of the skiff wearing a lifejacket.
A Coast Guard Station Mayport 45-foot Response Boat – Medium crew diverted to assist at 11:25 a.m.
The RB-M crew arrived on-scene, recovered the boater from on top of the overturned skiff and transported him to Morningstar Marina. A Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission marine unit recovered the two boaters from the good Samaritan and transported them to the marina.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the capsized vessel is under investigation.
