Coast Guard assists disabled, adrift vessel in East River

NEW YORK — The Coast Guard assisted three boaters Friday evening aboard a disabled, adrift vessel near Hell Gate, Queens, New York. 

 

Coast Guard Cutter Wire notified watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New York command center around 5 p.m., stating a 39-foot vessel was disabled and adrift near rocky shoreline. 

 

Cutter Wire took the vessel in tow until the vessel was able to restart an engine. Once on scene, a boatcrew aboard a 29-foot Response Boat-Small from Coast Guard Station Kings Point safely escorted the passengers and vessel to a safe haven.  

 

“We’re happy our crews were able to help and prevent the situation from worsening,” said Capt. Jason Tama, commander of Coast Guard Sector New York. “The Coast Guard is always ready to help mariners in distress.”

 

No injuries were reported.
