BOSTON — The crew of Coast Guard Base Boston held a change-of-command ceremony Wednesday at historic Faneuil Hall.
Capt. Andrew S. Brown relieved Capt. James “Brett” Millican as commanding officer of Coast Guard Base Boston.
Rear Adm. James Heinz, Director of Operational Logistics in Norfolk, Virginia, presided over the ceremony.
Millican's next assignment is in Norfolk, Virginia.
Brown served as commanding officer of the civil engineering unit in Providence, Rhode Island. He was responsible for providing shore facility asset management services across the First Coast Guard District.
The change-of-command ceremony is a time-honored event preserved by the rich heritage of naval tradition. This formal event is designed to strengthen the respect for the continuity of command that is vital to military organization. The culmination of the ceremony is reached when both officers read their orders, face one another, salute, and transfer command responsibility.
