Coast Guard medevacs man from parasailing boat near Fort Myers Beach

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla.— The Coast Guard medevaced a 28-year-old man from a parasailing boat near Fort Myers Beach, Monday.

At 1:22 p.m. Station Fort Myers Beach watchstanders received a distress call via VHF-FM marine band radio channel 16 from the captain of the 31-foot parasailing boat, The Mac. He reported suffering from symptoms of heat exhaustion and needing emergency assistance.

Lee County activated the Marine Emergency Response Team, and Fort Myers Beach Fire Rescue Emergency Medical Services arrived at the Coast Guard station. EMS recommended the man be medevaced.

A Coast Guard Station Fort Myers Beach 29-foot Response Boat-Small II boatcrew was launched with EMS aboard. The crew transported the man to the Coast Guard station where an ambulance awaited. EMS transported the man to HealthPark Medical Center in Fort Myers.

MERT consists of multiple federal, state and local marine emergency responders.
