HOUSTON — The Coast Guard assisted four mariners from a recreational vessel taking on water near Freeport, Texas, Saturday.

Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a notification at 3 a.m. of four people aboard a 20-foot recreational vessel that was hard aground and taking on water approximately 75 yards from Coast Guard Station Freeport.

Watchstanders directed the launch of a Coast Guard Station Freeport 45-foot Response Boat–Medium boat crew.

The boat crew arrived on scene and safely transferred the four people from the partly submerged vessel and transported them to the Bridge Bait boat ramp.

All four mariners were reported to be in stable condition.

The partly submerged vessel is anchored and not a hazard to navigation based on its position. The owner will coordinate salvage.
