NEW YORK — The Coast Guard accepted several pieces of artwork on behalf of the Coast Guard Art Program (COGAP), during a ceremony held at the Salmagundi Club in New York City, Thursday evening.
Rear Adm. Melissa Bert, director of Governmental and Public Affairs, accepted the pieces on behalf of the Coast Guard.
The artwork often depicts significant moments and daily events Coast Guard members have encountered. Many of the pieces will be exhibited at museums, libraries, and patriotic events. Many of the past submissions are now displayed in the offices of Congressional members, senior government officials, and at Coast Guard units nationwide.
For the past 37-years, the program has connected professional artists who volunteer their time to allow COGAP to fulfill its mission. COGAP is a partnership between the Coast Guard and the Salmagundi Club, a New York City artistic and cultural center.
The 2018 collection includes 28 different paintings. The entire COGAP collection contains nearly 2,000 works.
The exhibition is free and open to the public. It can be seen Monday through Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., until July 20. The Salmagundi Club is located at 47 Fifth Avenue in New York City.
