Crew of Coast Guard Cutter Bluebell welcomes new commanding officer

Henderson is returning to the cutter Bluebell as commanding officer after previously serving aboard the cutter as executive petty officer.

The personnel inspection is a time honored tradition, performed at every change of command ceremony, it signifies the passing of an able-bodied crew from one leader to the next.

Rear Adm. David Throop, commander Coast Guard 13th District and Capt. Brendan McPherson, chief of staff Coast Guard 13th District, presents a Master Cutterman certificate to Chief Warrant Officer Christopher Boss during a ceremony held at Marine Safety Unit Portland, Ore., July 12, 2018.

The Master Cutterman certificate is earned by serving an accumulative of 20 years at sea serving aboard Coast Guard cutters.

The cutter Bluebell is a 73-year-old inland buoy tender and the crew maintains the aids to navigation in the Columbia, Snake and Willamette River systems.
