Media Availability: Change of command ceremony to be held in Cape May, NJ

CAPE MAY, N.J. — Media is invited to attend the official change of command ceremony of the Coast Guard Cutter Lawrence Lawson in Cape May New Jersey, Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.

The change of command ceremony marks a transfer of total responsibility and authority from one individual to another. It is a time-honored tradition conducted before the assembled crew, as well as honored guests and dignitaries to formally demonstrate the continuity of the authority within a command.

Lt. Ted Cetrulo will assume the role of commanding officer of the Coast Guard Cutter Lawrence Lawson from Lt. Joseph Rizzo. The crew commissioned our nation's 20th Sentinel Class Cutter on March 18, 2017.

Operations included 71 living marine resource enforcement boardings, 13 search and rescue cases resulting in numerous lives assisted and 1 life saved, and over 14,000 miles patrolled in the Atlantic Ocean. During the first two years of operations, the cutter performed two towing evolutions, which resulted in the safe return of seven mariners and nearly $500,000 worth of personal property.
