Media Availability: Coast Guard to hold ribbon cutting ceremony for Maritime Safety and Security Team Cape Cod
BOSTON — Members of the media are invited to a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday for Maritime Safety and Security Team Cape Cod at Joint Base Cape Cod in Buzzards Bay.
WHO: Maritime Safety and Security Team Boston becomes Maritime Safety and Security Team Cape Cod.
WHAT: A ribbon cutting ceremony formally recognizing the relocation and renaming of the Maritime Safety and Security Team.
WHEN: Friday, July 13th arrive by 9:30 a.m. ceremony begins at 10 a.m.
WHERE: 3172 Herbert Road Buzzards Bay, Mass., 02542 – Joint Base Cape Cod
The team moved from the Coast Guard Base in Boston’s North End to Joint Base Cape Cod in Buzzards Bay as part of a reorganization initiative to improve accommodations and logistical support to several Coast Guard units in Massachusetts while also realizing long-term cost savings.
As part of the United States Coast Guard’s Deployable Specialized Forces, MSST Cape Cod is designed to safeguard the public and protect vessels, harbors, ports, facilities, and cargo in waters subject to the jurisdiction of the United States from destruction, loss or injury from crime, or sabotage due to terrorist or criminal activity.
The team consists of 51 service members employing six 29-foot response boats, a remote operated vehicle, and additional law enforcement equipment. As a deployable shore based unit, MSST Cape Cod has and will continue to regularly deploy in and outside the state of Massachusetts to support national special security events, enforce established maritime security zones, conduct law enforcement, and to protect the Maritime Transportation System as threats arise.
