1. In accordance with REF (A), this message announces the Coast Guard recipients of the
2017 DHS CFO Awards which were presented at the 2018 DHS Office of the CFO Training Symposium
in May 2018. These awards celebrate the DHS CFO community’s commitment to financial excellence by
recognizing the individuals and teams whose efficient and innovative approaches to their work over
the past fiscal year (FY) made a difference to the Department and our Nation.
2. I am honored to announce the Coast Guard recipients of the FY2017 DHS CFO Awards in the
following categories:
   a. Auditor’s Award for Superior Mission Achievement: Lance Poulter, USCG Finance Center,
Chesapeake, VA; and Coast Guard Property Remediation Team, COMDT (CG-845), Coast Guard

   b. Service Award for Superior Mission Achievement: USCG Community Services Command Natural
Disaster and Contingency Response Team, Chesapeake, VA; and Base Boston Cash Team, Boston, MA; 
   c. Bill Mason Excellence in Internal Controls Award for Superior Mission Achievement:

3. Congratulations to all of these award winners on their success. In total, 106 Coast Guard
personnel are award recipients. This DHS-wide recognition is a testament to the tremendous
effort the Coast Guard is making at all levels of the financial management enterprise to
improve accountability and modernize the fundamental financial processes by which we do
business. The work of the financial management community is critical to the operational
success of our Service and directly contributes to DHS achieving and maintaining an
unmodified audit opinion.
4. I applaud all the nominees for their accomplishments and their commanding officers and
supervisors for taking the time to submit well-deserved nominations. Successful financial
and resource management requires professionals who possess in-depth technical knowledge,
strong leadership skills, practical experience, and professional credentials to ensure the
Coast Guard can effectively and efficiently accomplish all operations and mission support
activities. I encourage all leaders to recognize their high performing financial management
professionals by nominating them next year for the FY2018 DHS CFO Awards.
