Coast Guard, partner agencies search for missing kayaker on Lake Champlain

BOSTON — The Coast Guard along with local fire departments are searching for a missing 44-year-old man Monday night after his kayak was found unmanned and adrift off Shelburne Point on Lake Champlain.

A good Samaritan reported the adrift kayak to Coast Guard watchstanders at around 7:30 p.m. prompting the search.

The man was confirmed missing by a separate correlating report from a group he was kayaking with that stated his kayak had capsized and he planned to swim to shore.

The group did not see him return to shore and he was not wearing a life jacket when they last saw him.

A Coast Guard Station Burlington 29-foot rescue boat crew along with boat crews from the Charlotte and Shelburne Fire Departments arrived on scene shortly after the reports and searched the area.

In addition to the boat crews, a Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew searched by air.

Coast Guard crews are expected to search through the night.
