Coast Guard Sector Columbia River transfers command during ceremony

The commander of Sector Columbia River oversees and leads nine sub-units with 1,050 active duty, civilian, reserve and auxiliary personnel, and serves as Captain of the Port, Federal On Scene Coordinator, Federal Maritime Security Coordinator, Officer in Charge of Marine Inspections, and Search and Rescue Mission Coordinator.

Capt. William Timmons transferred command of Sector Columbia River to Capt. Jeremy Smith.

Timmons logged more than 5,600 flight hours in the HH-60 and MH-60 Jayhawk helicopters during his 27 years of Coast Guard service.

The Coast Guard's 13th District's area of responsibility includes the states of Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana.
