Coast Guard warning boat owners, operators, passengers about illegally renting, chartering boats in Chicago

 

CHICAGO – The Coast Guard is inviting media to a press conference to help bring awareness about the increase in boat owners and operators illegally renting and chartering boats in Chicago, potentially endangering unsuspecting passengers.

Recent accidents and fatalities on illegally chartered boats in other cities, and the use of social media sites by boat owners, operators and the general public to advertise and rent recreational boats, has prompted the Chicago Coast Guard to step up efforts to educate and warn boat owners and the public about the dangers and consequences of operating and riding on illegal chartered boats.
