Media Availability: Change of command ceremony to be held at Coast Guard Station Atlantic City, NJ
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — Media is invited to attend the official change of command ceremony of Coast Guard Station Atlantic City, New Jersey, Monday at 10 a.m.
The change of command ceremony marks a transfer of total responsibility and authority from one individual to another. It is a time-honored tradition conducted before the assembled crew, as well as honored guests and dignitaries to formally demonstrate the continuity of the authority within a command.
Lt. Taylor J. Smith will assume the role of commanding officer of Station Atlantic City from Lt. Cmdr. Noel Johnson. The station operates five small boats, as well as the seasonal Station Great Egg, with an active duty crew of 42 personnel and reserve crew of 20. Crews conduct approximately 100 search and rescue cases each year in an area extending 50 miles offshore from Little Egg Inlet to Corson Inlet, including all back bays and waterways. Additionally, they conduct law enforcement, fisheries and environmental protection.
