MCKINLEYVILLE, Calif. — Coast Guard Sector Humboldt Bay and CARDA personnel are scheduled to conduct joint helicopter hoist training Thursday to help CARDA K-9 teams meet search-and-rescue certification requirements.

Four K-9 teams are scheduled to participate in the hot-load event, which involves loading and unloading the teams from the helicopter without shutting down the helicopter's engines.

The hot load is one of several requirements necessary for CARDA search-and-rescue certification.

CARDA trains, certifies and deploys search dog teams to assist law enforcement and other public safety agencies in the search for lost and missing persons. Once certified, a team can respond to requests from law enforcement for support to locate lost or missing persons. CARDA participates with the California Office of Emergency Services to provide support to requesting law enforcement agencies through a state-wide dispatch system.
