FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. — The Coast Guard assisted a Cape Coral family of six, including two children, after their boat ran aground four miles southwest of Sanibel Island on Friday.
At 7:36 p.m. Friday Sector St. Petersburg watchstanders received a call from the Cape Coral family stating they were stranded on a sand bar after their boat ran aground. Among the family were two children, ages two and four.
Watchstanders issued a Marine Assistance Request Broadcast which asks for assistance from boaters in the area. After receiving no reply to the broadcast, a Station Fort Myers Beach 29-foot Response Boat Small-II boatcrew was launched.
The boatcrew transported the family to the station with no reported injuries. The family stated they will arrange for salvage of the boat Saturday. The boat does not currently pose a hazard to navigation.
