SUBJ:  LATINA STYLE 2018 DISTINGUISHED MILITARY SERVICE AWARD
1. This ALCOAST solicits submissions for the LATINA Style 2018 Distinguished
Military Service Award recognizing women who through their service have enhanced the
role of Latinas in the U.S. Coast Guard.
2. The LATINA Style Distinguished Military Service Award is open to CG active duty,
reserve and civilian personnel. The performance period for award consideration is
August 2017 to July 2018. All award winners will be recognized during the 15th Annual
National LATINA Symposium on 6 September 2018 in Washington, DC.
3. Nominations for active duty or reserve members will be evaluated according to the
following criteria:
   a. Distinguished themselves as leaders, mentors, advocates of diversity and the full
integration of Latina women in the Armed Forces.
   b. Embodied the qualities that are at the core of the Coast Guard's mission.
   c. Well respected by superiors and peers as military and community leaders.
4. Nominations for civilian personnel will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
   a. Embodied the qualities that are at the core of the Coast Guard’s mission.
   b. Aided in creating opportunities and careers that support and contribute to the
advancement of Hispanic Americans toward senior level positions.
   c. Displayed exceptional character and represented the Hispanic community with dignity
and pride.
5. Nomination packages shall include the following:
   a. A narrative describing the accomplishments warranting recognition (single-spaced,
not to exceed two pages).
   b. Citation, not to exceed 12 lines, highlighting the accomplishments of the nominee.
   c. One-page biography of the nominee (a resume will not suffice).
   d. A digital (.jpg format) head and shoulder color photograph of the nominee.
   e. Command cover memo with signature.
   f. Award nomination transmittal form (contact the POC for the form).
6. Items 5.a. thru 5.c. must be in MS Word with 12-point font, single-spaced with
one-inch left and right margins. Documents may not be scanned or in .pdf format.
Do not include Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
7. Nomination packages must be forwarded, as email attachments only, to the

8. COMDT (CG-00H) will convene a panel to select the CG honorees. The recipients' commands
will be notified by phone, followed by an ALCOAST announcing the award winner(s).
