SUBJ:  2018 MCPO PEARL FAURIE LEADERSHIP AWARD RECIPIENT
1. I am pleased to announce that Machinery Technician Second Class (MK2) Elizabeth J. Haworth,
assigned to USCGC NORTHLAND is selected as the recipient of the 2018 MCPO Pearl Faurie
Leadership Award.
2. The MCPO Pearl Faurie Leadership Award was established in 2001 and is named in honor of
MCPO Pearl Faurie, who on 1 January 1964 was the first SPAR to achieve the rank of E-9.
The MCPO Pearl Faurie Leadership Award honors the first woman Master Chief Petty Officer
in the Coast Guard and recognizes an active duty or reserve enlisted woman in paygrades
E4 through E8 who has demonstrated exceptional leadership.
3. MK2 Haworth was recognized by her command for her inspirational and innovative leadership.
She made significant efforts that resulted in the improvement of work conditions and the quality
of life for her peers and subordinates. This award will be presented on June 21, 2018 at the
31st Annual Joint Women's Leadership Symposium in San Diego, CA, on June 21-22.
4. MK2 Haworth is assigned to the Auxiliary Division aboard USCGC NORTHLAND (WMEC-904).
MK2 Haworth manages the maintenance and repairs of all auxiliary systems onboard the cutter
including, but not limited to, the Chill Water system, Reverse Osmosis system, and Emergency
Diesel Generator. MK2 Haworth consistently displays her adept leadership skills with those
she supervises. She expertly manages the daily operations of a six-person division with an
incredible workload to keep a 34-year-old cutter operational. Her selflessness is commendable
and her work ethic is steadfast. She inspires those around her to be their best as she models
that herself, and displays maturity and exemplary performance well beyond her rank. She truly
is a leader of character. MK2 Haworth's full nomination from her command can be found at:
