Coast Guard holding two change-of-command ceremonies in New Orleans area Friday

NEW ORLEANS – Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans and Coast Guard Sector New Orleans are both receiving new commanding officers during separate change-of-command ceremonies at each location Friday.

Air Station New Orleans change-of-command ceremony:

  • WHO: Cmdr. Harper L. Phillips is scheduled to relieve Cmdr. Tina J. Peña and take command of Air Station New Orleans.
  • WHAT: A change-of-command is a ceremony in which all responsibilities of the commanding officer of Air Station New Orleans will be transferred. 
  • WHERE: Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans, 400 Russell Ave., New Orleans, LA 70143
  • WHEN: Friday, June 15, 2018, at 9:00 a.m.

Peña served as the commanding officer of Air Station New Orleans since the summer of 2016.

Phillips is reporting from Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Media are invited to attend and are requested to arrive no later than 8:15 a.m. to be escorted to the ceremony. Any media planning to attend the air station ceremony should contact the District 8 Public Affairs Office at 504-671-2020 or 618-225-9008.

Sector New Orleans change-of-command ceremony: 

  • WHO: Capt. Kristi M. Luttrell is scheduled to relieve Capt. Wayne R. Arguin and take command of Sector New Orleans.
  • WHAT: A change-of-command is a ceremony in which all responsibilities of the commanding officer of  Sector New Orleans will be transferred. 
  • WHERE: Julia Street Cruise Terminal, 920 Port of New Orleans Place, New Orleans, LA
  • WHEN: Friday, July 15, 2018, at 1 p.m.

Arguin served as captain of the port, federal maritime security coordinator, federal on-scene coordinator, officer in charge of marine inspection and search and rescue mission coordinator. He assumed command of Sector New Orleans in July 2016. He is departing New Orleans to become the chief of emerging policy staff at Coast Guard Headquarters.

 

Luttrell served most recently at Sector New Orleans as the deputy commander. She previously served at Coast Guard Sector Houston Galveston and Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay.
