Coast Guard, other agencies search for missing man in Potomac River near Francis Scott Key Bridge

BALTIMORE — The Coast Guard and other agencies are searching for a man in the Potomac River after a pontoon boat overturned near the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Washington, D.C., Monday.

Fire and EMS in the district contacted watchstanders at Sector Maryland-National Capital Region’s command center at 10:55 a.m. and notified them that the pontoon boat capsized with three people on board while doing construction work . One person is still missing, while the other two were recovered. The missing man was reported to be wearing a red life jacket.

Sector Maryland-National Capital Region issued an urgent marine information broadcast, launched a 29-foot Response Boat-Small crew from Station Washington and a MH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter from Air Station Atlantic City, New Jersey, to assist with the search alongside D.C. Fire and EMS, Alexandria Fire Department, U.S. Park Police, D.C. Police Department, and D.C. Harbor Patrol.

“We are hard at work alongside our partner agencies to locate this missing man,” said Lt. David Kent, command duty officer at Sector Maryland-National Capital Region.
