SUBJ:  COMMANDANT’S CHANGE OF COMMAND
1. This morning I had the honor of relieving Admiral Paul Zukunft as the 26th Commandant of
the United States Coast Guard. Our service is strong, the total workforce highly capable,
and the demand for Coast Guard services never greater. These are testament to Admiral Zukunft’s
leadership and speak volumes of you – our highly capable, dedicated, and professional workforce.
2. I have also released my Guiding Principles, which frame my direction and describe how we
will support our Department and the Nation - now and into the future. Our heading will remain
steady, but we will look to pick up speed, and I have directed a series of actions to help
ensure we are a Ready, Relevant, and Responsive Coast Guard. Find more information here:
www.uscg.mil/alwaysready/.
3. I have also signed policy statements on Equal Opportunity; Anti-Discrimination and
Anti-Harassment; Diversity and Inclusion; Sustainability, Environmental, and Energy; Safety
and Environmental Health; OSHA Notice to USCG Members; Auxiliary; and Reserve, which can be
found at: www.uscg.mil/Leaders/Senior-Leadership/policy/.
4. It remains an honor to serve alongside you as we build on past success and lead our Coast
Guard into the future. Lastly, please join me in wishing Admiral Zukunft and Mrs. Fran
Deninno-Zukunft Godspeed as they enter the next chapter of their lives. Semper Paratus!
5. Admiral Karl Schultz, Commandant, sends.
6. Internet release authorized.
