SUBJ:  LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL, AND TRANSGENDER PRIDE MONTH
1.  June is recognized as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT)
Pride Month in communities across the Nation.  The commemoration of Pride Month
is a public demonstration of our Nation’s commitment to the principles of inclusion,
equality, and respect for all.  Pride among members of the LGBT community is often
described as an affirmation of self-worth, dignity, and equality.
2.  The theme for this year’s Pride Month special observance is “Elements of Us.”
This statement salutes the diversity within the LGBT community and celebrates the
value of different voices, identities, and ethnicities that make up the American people.
3.  The Coast Guard joins other U.S. military Services in recognizing the creed that
all individuals must be treated with equality, dignity and respect.  Our lives and
workplace are enriched when we are aware of and accepting of our differences while
focusing on the similarities, talents, skills and experiences that each of us can
contribute to make our country and the entire world a better place for all.
4.  In keeping with this month’s theme, “Elements of Us," we acknowledge that our
Nation is strengthened through diversity and inclusion.  All Coast Guard units and
commands are encouraged to participate in activities and special events that create
awareness and highlight the numerous contributions of LGBT military members and
civilian personnel to our Service and our Nation.
