1. This message solicits those MCPOs and SCPOs desiring assignment
as a Gold Badge Command Master Chief (CMC) or Silver Badge Command
Master/Senior Chief (CMC/CSC) in AY19. Gold and Silver Badge
Command Master Chiefs uphold the highest standards and traditions
of the United States Coast Guard, and these assignments are reserved
for outstanding individuals whose careers have displayed excellence
in mission execution, adherence to core values, and a keen
understanding of Coast Guard policies.
2.Gold Badge CMCs are key to successful mission execution and to
maintaining positive command environments. They must possess the
communication skills necessary to push ground truth feedback up and
down the chain of command. These skills are critical in building and
maintaining a strong and effective Command Cadre as well as
enhancing a positive command climate.
3. Silver Badge Command Master/Senior Chiefs actively promote
communication between unit commanders and the enlisted workforce and
are cognizant of resources that support personnel and their families.
4. Eligibility:
A. Active Duty MCPOs and SCPOs who meet the minimum qualifications
set forth in reference (a) and (b) are highly encouraged to apply.
B. Open to members tour complete in AY19 or AY20.
C. Current Gold and Silver Badge CMCs/CSCs who are tour complete
in AY19 and desire a follow-on Gold or Silver Badge assignment are
required to submit an updated memo and command endorsement.
D. Consecutive tours or extensions are not guaranteed.
E. MCPOs and SCPOs who have approved retirements on file are not
eligible to apply. Short term HYT waivers are not available for the
sole purpose of competing in the process.
5. Applications:
A. Applications are due to CG PSC-EPM-2 NLT 30 June 2018.
B. All application packages are screened by the Command Master
Chief/Command Senior Chief Panel convening 31 July - 03 Aug 2018.
C. Application package contents, CO endorsement requirements,
submission instructions and the AY19 Gold/Silver Badge shopping
list can be found on the Special Assignments website at reference (c).
D. Application package requirements for the Gold and Silver Badge
programs are the same and members do not need to submit more than
one package if applying for both Gold and Silver Badge programs.
Members will communicate their preferences for Gold/Silver Badge
programs via their E-Resume following the results of the screening
panel.
6. E-Resume:
A. Deadlines will be announced following the release of the
CMC/CSC panel results OOA 10 August 2018. Those applicants who are
also screening for OIC, XPO, or EPO should convey their preferences
to their respective AOs, and verify that their names have been added
to the applicable candidate pools. This will assist in preventing
erroneous exclusion from the appropriate screening processes.
