UPDATE: Coast Guard, local agencies find 2 women safe ashore near Marathon, Fla.

 

KEY WEST, Fla. — The Coast Guard, along with local authorities confirmed two women were found safe ashore Tuesday near Marathon.

Two women contacted Coast Guard Sector Key West watchstanders at 1 p.m., stating they were safe and with friends.

Coast Guard Sector Key West watchstanders received a call at approximately 2:30 a.m., from Chris Hambrock reporting he was on a small row boat with two females who reportedly jump overboard and attempted to swim to shore. He lost sight of the two women and contacted Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

A Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Miami, a 33-foot Special Purpose Craft-Law Enforcement boatcrew from Station Marathon, MCSO crews and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commision crews aided in the search.
