Coast Guard Academy Commencement 2018 Media Ground Rules

Vice President Mike Pence is scheduled to deliver the keynote address at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy's 137th commencement exercises Wednesday, May 23, at 11 a.m.
The event is not open to the public, attendance is by invitation only. 
Media Ground Rules are as follows:
  • All Television Cameras and accompanying tripods that will be used to cover this event must be pre-staged by 4 a.m.  No media may be on the field during the security sweep.
  • Media may enter the academy for pre-set at the Main Entrance on US-32 Mohegan Avenue.  At the gate, ask for directions to Cadet Memorial Field.  Media vehicles may park on campus for unload and pre-set only.  No media vehicles except satellite/live trucks may remain on campus during the event.
  • Satellite/live trucks will be allowed to park in the northbound lane of Harriet Lane along the rock wall parallel to Cadet Memorial Field and must be in place on Harriet Lane by 4 a.m.
  • Cable Run: 400 ft.  Throw: 110 ft.
  • Media with still cameras or no equipment may enter the facility between 7:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.
  • During the event there will be no parking available on base.  Media Parking will be available at the National Guard Armory on Bayonet Street.  Shuttle service begins at 7:30 a.m.  The last shuttle departs the Academy at 3 p.m. and the lot will be secured by 4 p.m.  Any cars left in the lot after 4 p.m. will be locked in.
  • Live shots are allowed before and during commencement ceremonies.
  • In the case of foul weather, the event will be moved to Leamy Hall.  Additional pooling arrangements will be required and instructions will be given on-site.
  • Media members must display their credentials and passes at all times.  Please check with a Coast Guard Public Affairs liaison the morning of commencement for any updates.
