MEDIA AVAILABILITY: Coast Guard Cutter Seneca to hold change-of-command ceremony

BOSTON — The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Seneca is scheduled to hold a change-of-command ceremony Thursday on their homeport pier at Base Boston.

WHO: Cmdr. John J. Christensen will assume command of Coast Guard Cutter Seneca from Cmdr. Alan B. McCabe.

WHAT: A change-of-command ceremony is scheduled to recognize the transfer of leadership between outgoing and incoming commanding officers of Coast Guard Cutter Seneca.

WHEN: Thursday, May 24th at 6:30 p.m.

WHERE: The pier at Coast Guard Base Boston, 427 Commercial Street, Boston, MA, 02109

Coast Guard Cutter Seneca is a 270-foot medium endurance cutter with primary missions of counter-narcotics, search and rescue, and living marine resources. The ship has a crew complement of 100.

The change-of-command ceremony is a time-honored military tradition aboard ships and shore commands. It represents a total transfer of responsibility, authority and accountability from one individual to another. The core of the event is the formal changing of command in the presence of the entire crew, leaving no doubt as to who has assumed the mantle of authority.

Editor's note: Media representatives interested in attending the change-of-command ceremony should contact Ensign Joshua DuBois at (617) 223-3083 no later than 10 a.m., Thursday, May 24th.
